Anyone For Tennis?

Sports Photo of the Day

Today I continued my quest to break out and shoot new sports. Purdue was hosting tennis one last time today so I really wanted to try it out. I really do not watch tennis so I was working on the fly. I shot a little during warm ups to see what looked good. I found that while the moment of impact on the racket does look good, sometimes the best shots came just a moment before impact. I think that the photo above is a good example of this. You see that the ball is going to hit the racket, but more importantly you see the muscles tensing, and the anticipation on his face. I have put up an album of a few of the shots that I liked on Facebook here. I did not stay inside the cage very long because I did not want to interfere with the players concentration. I shot from outside the fence for most of the time. I really did not stay long, but only to get a feel for the sport. I was happy with my results knowing what I need to do to get that great shot next time. I think that today was a success from that point of view. This worked out great today actually because the two events that I could have covered tonight have both been rained out. The rain is really not letting me get any shooting in lately.

I named this post the way that I did because for some reason I couldn’t get the Cream song by the same name out of my head while at the Schwartz Tennis Center. I thought that it was only a fitting title for the post. I think that a couple of pictures went out via Twitter and Instagram during the event, and the same title was used. I bet my few followers are wondering why all of a sudden I am Tweeting about tennis.

Technical Data

As I have said before I am getting spoiled with these sport shots because they do not require much work at all. Here I upped the clarity a bit in Lightroom along with adjusting the white balance. I also cropped in a bit because even being close my 70-200mm lens did not get close enough. That was the extent of my editing here.
