Photo of the Day
I don’t know exactly when it happened, but the town that I used to live in underwent some changes. The older looking storefronts got a much needed facelift. Maybe it happened right under my nose. While waiting for the light to change I noticed the colorful scene in front of me. I quickly swapped lenses, and stuck the camera out the window just as the car started moving forward. This is why I wanted to ride instead of drive. I would never have gotten this picture had I been driving. I like the look of the portion of the street now. It is funny how you notice things only after you have left.
I posted another version of this picture yesterday on my Facebook page. I have been making many images lately, and the overflow images have been ending up on there. If you haven’t yet why not click here, and then click the like button? I would like to get better at giving a little more behind the scenes action on there as well. I usually take a picture of my setup with my iPhone. Facebook will be a good outlet to show those images.
Technical Data
This photo is one that I would never have made in the past. The sky was very grey and boring. I have found an answer for that though. As taken this photo is not very interesting. The grey of the sky really brings the entire scene down. A blue sky on the other hand brightens it up allowing it to be a cheery scene. In the field you can do this with a graduated filter with a blue hue. In post processing using Lightroom you can also do this with a virtual graduated filter. I have had limited success using that, but a preset from Trey Ratcliff does it very well. It is called “HDR in Lightroom – Daytime Fixy.” It really helps on two fronts. One is that I don’t have to go out and buy these expensive filters and rigs for my camera. The second is that I can take a boring grey sky and give it some interest. If only they had a preset that added some clouds in. Then this picture would be very interesting.
