Sports Photo of the Day
Today is a great day. It is the day that pitchers and catchers report to spring training. In a few days the rest of the team will join them, and the beautiful game that is baseball will be played again. When the weather is cold nothing sounds better than sitting in the warm bleachers watching a baseball game. Maybe that is why every year it sounds so great that the players are getting ready in the warmth of Florida and Arizona.
The picture above was taken last summer on the only day that I watched Major League Baseball. I did manage to see two games that day though both at Wrigley and at U.S. Cellular Field. I liked the picture above because it shows how fickle the game can be. Tyler Colvin of the Rockies is shown sliding into second base trying to break up a double play. He was once a top prospect of the Cubs. A freak accident that ended up with a piece of a bat in his chest effectively ended his Cubs career. Starlin Castro shown throwing the ball is the current hope of Cub fans to bring them back to glory. He is a very good shortstop that should have a long career in Chicago.
Technical Data
This shot was taken with the 70-200mm lens that I was borrowing prior to buying one. That great deal of renting to own basically is now gone with the closing of Berry’s Camera Shop. I am glad that I was able to try this lens out, and I am much happier to own the newer version for myself. I did have my 1.4x multiplier on the lens to give me the extra length that I needed to get this shot. As far as RAW processing I simply applied the light sports preset to this photo to get it where I wanted it.
