Photo of the Day
While walking along the river in Milwaukee I saw a very nice replica of an English phone booth on the walk. I really like the look of these things, and I always wanted to photograph one. The bad thing was though that this time of the year there really is not a lot around it to make it worth the photo. The planter to the right of it would probably give some great color in the summer. I took the shot anyway as I do not know when I will be back to town to get another shot at this.
Technical Data
This shot is another three shot HDR image taken handheld on the river. I knew that the range of light was too great for one image. I sent the photos to Photomatix to combine them, and then imported the 32 bit file back into Lightroom to use the sliders there. I also tried to use the sliders in Photomatix as I used to. I liked the result, but it did look a little fake as it used to. It was fun to play with the sliders again. I performed a small crop as well as straightening the picture. I think that it was actually straight to begin with, but the lens distorted the booth a bit. To make the focus of the image straight I adjusted it. I also used the selection brush to lighten the booth a bit so that I could have the background darker.
Gear Review
I don’t normally talk about the gear that I use other than the camera and various lenses. On a trip like this last one to Milwaukee though one piece of gear was very useful. At Christmas I picked out a Black Rapid RS-7 strap for a gift. It wouldn’t seem likely, but in the last couple of weeks as I explored parts of two different states this strap has been very handy. It allows me to carry my camera out of the way, but it also lets me bring it up quickly to make a picture. I love it over the strap that came with the camera. This has been one of the best accessories that I have received in quite some time.
