Photo of the Day
The trip to Milwaukee was a bit of a whirlwind. We got into town, and the only time that we really rested was to sleep Saturday night. Sunday morning I woke up a little early to go out and explore the city. I had a few things in mind when I set off, but the main goal was to get to the river. One thing that intrigued me about the city was this statue of the fictitious Arthur Fonzarelli. Of course growing up I watched the show “Happy Days” of which ‘the Fonz’ was the star. The city of Milwaukee was the setting for the show, and that is why this life size statue of the Fonz sits next to the river. The character who was famous for saying “Sit on it” now will forever sit next to the river. I guess forever might be the wrong thing to say. This bronze sculpture by Gerald P. Sawyer faced very stiff opposition when it was announced. It did divide people in the town quite a bit. A shift in the wind may mean the end for the Fonz here.
Technical Data
This picture as I said was created very early in the morning. This picture was made with a very bright sky and a dark foreground. I set my camera up to take three exposures two stops apart from each other in order to make this HDR image. I ran the three photos through Photomatix to combine them to get all of the light data that I needed. From there I saved the file, and opened it back up in Lightroom. From there I used the sliders to adjust the scene so that it appears as it did to my eyes that day. As I have said before on this site the eyes see much more than the camera can. I used the brush tool to select the Fonz so that I could lighten him up a bit. I also used the graduated filter tool to darken the sky so that I could have the buildings little lighter. This was fun going back through a lot of the tools that I have learned to create an image similar to what I saw in person.
