Sports Photo of the Day
Over the weekend we headed to Milwaukee to cheer on a former Lafayette Brawlin’ Doll as she was skating for her new team. She now skates for the Crazy Eights which is part of the Brewcity Bruisers. Of course I had my camera with me, and I wanted to capture a couple shots of this skater that I watched here in town. Sorah Bones was a blocker most of the first half. Right at the end she had the star on her helmet to jam, but of course the half came at the wrong time. To start the second half I moved back down trackside to get a couple more shots. The skater we came to see was given the star once again, but penalties appeared to take me opportunity away. Luckily she got back on the track so that I could get a couple of pictures. As she made here way through the pack I was able to make this picture which I was very happy with. With this in my camera I spent the rest of the bout in the stands enjoying the action.
Technical Data
This was another easy image to edit. I performed a small crop to get the action where I wanted it. I then applied Matt Kloskowski’s light sports preset to the picture. That gave it the look that I wanted for sure. Because I did not want to lug my large camera bag around town I just took my 10-24mm lens as well as my 50mm lens. The derby action shots were all with the 50mm lens which gave me the ability to capture a great amount of light. I really like what the 50mm lens can do for derby. I may have to use it a bit more this coming season.
