Photo of the Day
I know that most people don’t like the sports pictures on here so I rarely will put two up on the same day. With that being said though I really don’t think of this shot as a sports picture. In fact unless I told you that this was shot in Notre Dame Stadium this past September you might not have known that. Ever since Lou Holtz graced the Notre Dame sidelines the students have saluted their coach at the start of the fourth quarter. Now with Brian Kelly at the helm they have taken to making a K with their fingers during this salute. I was sitting right next to the student section that day so I knew that I wanted to get this picture.
Technical Data
As for processing the shot I had something in mind here for sure. I wanted an old festival look. I found that with a preset that was free from On One Software called Grandma’s Lemonade. That gave me the look that I wanted here. The real technical part about this photo though was trying to capture the action with the hands. I was shooting the action from the stands with my 70-200mm f/2.8 with the 1.4x extender on it. When this started I turned my camera to the action. At f/4 I had a very thin plane of focus to try and get the hands in. I managed to make a picture at the right time, and more importantly in focus.
