Photo of the Day
Since I put up my Christmas picture with the iPhone photo I think that it frees me up to post this shot from the baseball season. I really have wanted to try a couple of new things on the blog, and the addition to some older sports images has been on that list. I know that the people who frequent the blog do not like them at all. With that in mind I usually post them as a secondary picture everyday. Sports photography is my passion so why leave it off the blog?
This is a shot that I have liked since I saw it on the LCD of my camera. I took this during the only White Sox game that I saw in person this season. That even sounded funny coming out of my mouth. It was a hectic year, and I really did not get to as many games as I would have liked. Being the only game that I attended I made sure that I had good seats. Our seats were a couple of sections off where the photo well is at the park. Not as close as I wanted, but still very good for the price. That spot though enabled me to get this shot of Mariner right fielder Eric Thames while he warmed up. Some fans were having fun with him in between innings, and he was enjoying the encounter. To me this is what baseball should be about. It is a player having fun with the fans while doing something that we all want to do. Since that game he has become a player that I have been watching.
Technical Data
I liked this shot off the bat, but it was missing something. I took a free Matt Kloskowski preset called ‘the 300 look’, and applied it to the shot. I really just looked like an older photo. A little tweaking with the preset for the Mariner colors though, and I got a shot that I really like. Action shots during a game are good, but I like to capture moments as well. I think that I did that here. The ball did just settle in his glove as well so I guess this still could be considered action. This was also shot with the 70-200mm lens that I rented just for this trip with the 1.4x extender on it. That really did get me right where I wanted to be. It was not long after this day that I had the newer version of the same lens.

I’m not a huge fan of sports, but this is an excellent shot, even more so for being candid.
