Photo of the Day
Yesterday I had the day off of work, and nothing really planned. It was a great feeling to have for sure. For some crazy reason I decided to get up before the sun to go out and get a shot. I had been looking for some sort of lakes around the West Lafayette area to get some shots at, but they aren’t as prevalant as they are in LaPorte. I remembered my brother talking about one over by Meijer in Lafayette so I did a quick search on Stuck on Earth to see where it was exactly. I was surprised to see so many pictures from the small lake, but I did have a destination for the morning. I arrived before the sun, and scoped out a couple of possible locations. I made a few pictures that I liked, but the two I really liked came as the sun made its appearance. You don’t get the color here that you would with some clouds in the sky, but I liked how everything came together.
Technical Data
I used a couple of techniques here to get this shot. I shot at a low aperture (f/16) to get the starburst effect for the sun. I really wanted that, and a little preplanning allowed that to happen here. As for post processing I ran three files shot at three different shutter speeds through Photomatix Pro to get a tonemapped image. I then took the 32 bit file back into Lightroom to make my final adjustments there. I really like how the shot turned out, and I am enjoying this method more and more as I use it. I get results that I like, but I also get realistic results.

I have had a SmugMug account for some time now. I really have not uploaded much onto it for some reason. I think that I just haven’t gotten around to it. I thought that I would start putting the photos of the day that I really like up so that they are available for purchase. Time will tell how this turns out, but why not? Today is a good day to start I think. Just click on the image below to be taken to my SmugMug site. The process to get the photos there is actually easier than I thought. There is a plug-in right inside of Lighroom that publishes my shot to SmugMug. I really have no excuse now not to do this.
