Sacrifice From Above

Photo of the Day

I really don’t have many patriotic shots in reserve. For some reason I have either already used them, or I just haven’t gotten around to uploading them yet. I really like this shot of one of the planes that the Tuskegee Airmen flew. I was out of ideas just standing by the wing when I saw an angle that I had not yet shot. I liked the way that the word ammunition was written on the wing, and the rest of the plane was just beautiful. While shooting this I was approached by a Purdue student who was a photographer, and we had a nice chat about the craft. I really learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t with planes that day, and I would love another shot at something similar to this.

Technical Data

I had some fun editing this shot in Lightroom. I adjusted the highlights, shadows, clarity, contrast, and vibrance on the image. The unique lighting in play here made the shot both challenging and fun to get right. I think that I did it justice, and I hope that it represents these men well on Veteran’s Day.
