Fall Creek Gorge

Photo of the Day

It has been a while since I took a picture, edited it, and posted it on the same day. I thought that today would be a good day to make that happen again. I made my first trip to the potholes outside of Attica, Indiana. I really was not prepared for what I would run into in many different ways. I wish I had some boots so that I wouldn’t have to try and keep my feet dry. That really proved to be a chore, and in the end I just waded through the water. I also shot the entire time with my wide angle lens. I don’t know what I thought that was a great idea. When I went through these shots that looked great in person they all looked small. I think that the distortion of the lens hurt me in this case.

Technical Data

This was a three shot HDR that was merged in Photomatix. I haven’t been using this program much lately, but the dynamic range of the situation pretty much screamed for it. I then took the 32 bit file back into Lightroom to work on. I really had to walk a fine line here to get the colors that I wanted without blowing the picture out. In the end I think that I did a decent job here, but I really would like a second shot at the area. I may have to try and get back soon to see what I can do.
