Photo of the Day
Sunday I went back out to Wolf Park to get some more pictures. It is really amazing to me what a great resource this park is for everyone. It is a great place to learn about wildlife, but for myself it is a great place to get some wildlife shots. Over the last year or so that I have been shooting at the park I have learned a lot. In fact when this posts it will be one year and one day since my first visit. One wolf that I really don’t have any good pictures of is the alpha male Wotan. Sunday that changed. Wotan decided to jump on a log which I have not seen before. I tried to get a couple of shots of him up there because it gave me a good view of him. I wish that he was posed a bit different, but with the wolves you have to take what you can get.
Technical Data
One thing that I have learned over time is that the wolves look much better with the background blurred. I used my new 70-200mm f/2.8 lens with the 1.4x extender on it to get this shot. I was shooting up at f/4 to blur the background. That is as high as I can go with the extender on it. I did that to blur the background, but it also served another purpose. That helped me shoot through a dirty window in the observation room that was my best vantage point. The wolves were not far enough away from the chain link fence to shoot through it so I moved inside to get my shot. I did make a few minor adjustments in Lightroom, but nothing too exciting to talk about here.
