Itching For A Picture

Photo of the Day

This photo has a little story that goes with it. I was out that morning getting some pictures of an iconic LaPorte barn at sunrise. When I had my shot there I decided to see what else I could get quickly. I found this field with a layer of fog on it, and I knew that I had an interesting picture. I found the perfect spot on the side of the road to get a shot. I then framed my shot, changed a few camera settings, and then waited for a cow to walk into the frame. The one thing that I did not check was the ground at my feet. I must have been standing in a poison ivy patch as I broke out that night. I had not been anywhere else so this had to be the spot where I got into it. I was starting a new job the next day so I had to be at my best, but I was far from it. The itching had me just trying to get through the day. I never even looked at the pictures from that day until a couple of months ago. The sunrise pictures did not pan out, but I really liked this picture. I did not like the price that I paid for it though. I still have scars where I broke out.

Technical Data

I brought this photo into Lightroom, and that is where I started to really like this shot. Even though it was a jpeg I was able to add to the highlights to really make the sun in the fog pop. It also helped the small sunburst on the right hand side come out a bit. Lightroom can do a lot of things. I believe that I have called it a miracle worker on this site before. One thing that it cannot do though is get rid of poison ivy. Maybe there is a preset for that.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game tomorrow. This will be the last time that I have to spam my own blog for the photowalk. The walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over  1,300 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Over 31,000 walkers have already signed up so far. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
