A Look At My Future

Photo of the Day

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I have been joking all day that I need to get a picture. The photo 365 project was really all consuming. I would get antsy if I didn’t have a picture late in the day. Now I can sit back and take pictures for fun again. At one point in my project I was not doing that, and I almost quit for that reason. This is a hobby after all, and when it starts to feel like work I need to step back. I have a folder ready with some shots from the last few years ready to go. This blog will stay active with a photo a day, but I will not have the pressure of taking one everyday. It is really refreshing to have that burden off of my shoulders.

I picked this photo to start things off because I felt it would kick off the new phase of this blog quite well. Zoltar in theory will tell you your future. At this point I don’t know exactly what that is, but I know that for at least the next year I will keep this site up. Had I thought about it at the time I could have fed a dollar into the machine to ask it what the future of this blog will be. I don’t believe in such things, but it would have been fun. I look forward to showing some pictures that didn’t make it onto this site for various reasons. I will try and spread things out a bit so that you don’t get shots from just one region all the time. We will see how that works out over time.

For a person my age this machine was a big part in the Tom Hanks movie ‘Big.’ This is where he made his wish to become a man. Of course in the end he longed to get back to his childhood, but it was fun watching him discover the adult world. That is the entire reason that this machine was shot in the first place. I am glad that I did get the shot though as it worked out great for this blog.

Technical Data

This was a shot that I liked from the trip to Ocean City, but it wasn’t until I got it into Lightroom that I loved it. I used some of the sliders that I have come to love to make this photo ‘pop’ a little. I also cropped it in a bit to have the machine fill the frame. I had to get in a very awkward crouch to get this shot, but I think it was worth it. Thankfully my 60D does fairly well in low light so that I could get the shot that I wanted in a very dark environment.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over  1,100 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Over 22,000 walkers have already signed up so far. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.

  1. Congratulations on doing it for a whole year. I don’t think I could have done it, I really admire your commitment to it, I am also glad that you won’t stop posting her, and I look forward to seeing some of the other images you have shot along the way.
