Day 367: It’s A Bout Time!

Photo of the Day

Today marks the end of my year long quest to shoot a photo a day. I started this thing out to help me learn a new camera, and also to help broaden my scope as far as subjects. I have shot many things over the course of this year that I would never have shot without the pressure of a picture a day. Looking back on the project it was a great thing for both my photography as well as myself. Would I do it again? Not in a million years. I will have a bonus shot from today that will post tomorrow that kind of bookends this project. I had this in mind for a while now, and I think that this will be a great way to end it.

I took this photo at the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls bout tonight. I think that this picture has a lot of what I learned over the course of the year in it. I shot this at a very high ISO. I used to trust my ISO a little too much, but I would always shoot too dark in order to get the shutter speed that I wanted. This was shot in aperture priority mode with the ISO cranked up to 6400. To get a clean shot I needed to pan with the skaters. That provided some interesting shots with a lot of movement in them. I also came up with a few blurry ones as well as my panning was not always spot on. This was the last bout of the season for the Brawlin’ Dolls. I had a blast watching them this year, and I look forward to next year when we can watch them again.

Technical Data

For this shot not much was done. I barely adjusted the highlights, vibrance, and exposure. I liked this picture enough to pretty much leave it alone.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over  1,100 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Over 22,000 walkers have already signed up so far. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
