Day 361: Batter Up!

Photo of the Day

Today I took in the new baseball stadium that Purdue has built in the new sports complex outside of campus. Alexander Field was worth the wait for sure. I wish that the record setting team last season could have played in it, but you can’t always get everything that you want. One thing that I will miss about the old park was the access that you had. I could go right behind the plate to get some pictures of the pitcher from a very unique angle to the fans. Here though there are seats that will prevent that. I guess I could see if any of the good ones are still available, but I am sure that they were gobbled up during the open house that I was not able to attend last season. I am sure that a few more pictures of this beautiful park will appear on this site again before it is all said and done.

I took this picture of Purdue pitcher Patrick Kenney as he was pitching to the black team. Last season I learned a lot about focusing on the pitcher at the old field so I decided to try it a bit here at the new field. I really liked what I was able to do. The day was perfect so that made things a bit easier. In the last week of the project it was good to get the Boiler baseball team on the site again.

Technical Data

This picture had a little work done to it. I upped the clarity and highlights, but I did not turn up the clarity as much as I normally do. It just made things look a little too fake. I also added a little vibrance as it made the uniform and the fall colors in the bokeh pop a bit. A small crop was made to bring things in a bit more, and to make the image more appealing.

Other News

Today marks the end of September. This has been a good month for the site. I have had the third best month since I started, and things are trending back up. Thanks again to all that frequent the site, and I will try to keep the good images coming.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over  1,100 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Over 22,000 walkers have already signed up so far. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
