Photo of the Day
Tonight we were eating dinner watching the rain just pour down. It was a gloomy night, and I had no idea what my picture would be for the day. I looked up the storm on my phone, and I noticed that a small window would open soon when it would not be raining. I was thinking more about that window allowing us to leave, but then it dawned on me that I might get a good sunset picture. We were not in the most scenic of areas so I put that thought aside. Then the sun came out of the cloud, and of course I grabbed the keys and took off outside to the car to get my camera. Sometimes something is just put in your lap, and this was it today. I think for where I was this is a decent shot. It was a beautiful sunset for sure, and I am glad that I decided to capture it.
Technical Data
Once again this was taken as part of a three shot HDR bracket. I did not process it that way though, and instead processed the metered exposure in Lightroom. I liked part of the shot, but not all of it. A pesky power line was in my way, and I do not have the good version of Photoshop to get rid of it with content aware. I decided to crop it a bit to get rid of the line. I used the cinematic crop that I learned from RC Concepcion on one of his Kelby talks. It really does make a nice frame, and I like the way that it saved this picture. It is a 2.39 to 1 ratio, and it is now saved in my crop menu. After the crop I added to the highlights, and added a little clarity to the shot. That is the extent of my processing here.
Kelby Worldwide Photowalk
Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over 1,100 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Nearly 21,000 walkers have already signed up so far. Activity has picked up a bit on the Purdue sites even with the short time being posted. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
