Day 341 Bonus: A Patriot on Patriot Day

Photo of the Day

Last night I was at my brother’s house with my new lens trying it out a bit. I had a blast shooting the dogs in motion trying to get them in the narrow window of focus needed. I wasted some good shots doing so, but I learned a lot too. That is what this photo a day thing is about isn’t it? I captured a few good shots of the dogs in motion, but then I think I tired them out. Riot (full name Patriot) was resting in the shade when I took this picture. I liked how it was framed, and he looked good in it so I thought I would post it for Patriot Day. This is a day to remember the heroes of September 11th, but it is also Riot’s first birthday. I guess he can get some extra face time on the blog for that.

Technical Data

Just like last nights shot this one had very little done to it. I just adjusted the white balance in Lightroom to compensate for shooting this in the shade. The camera was set to auto, but sometimes it doesn’t always pick the best setting. Shooting in RAW allows me to change that later in post. Lightroom has really changed how I shoot. No more JPG only shots. I used to shoot in RAW sometimes when I thought HDR was needed, but now that is all I shoot in. I think that making the subtle over the large adjustments has really impacted my photography. I still might post an over the top one every now and then. They are fun to make after all.

Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over  1,000 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Nearly 17,000 walkers have already signed up so far. Activity has picked up a bit on the Purdue sites even with the short time being posted. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.
