Day 314: The Glow of Purdue

Picture of the Day

Tonight once again the night got away from me without getting a picture. I decided to go outside and see what I could do in the dark. I really struggle in this area so it only makes sense that I practice a little. Shooting in most directions produced results that I didn’t like even after using Lightroom. I shot over a tree towards the campus of Purdue, and came up with the following picture. It doesn’t have a large number of stars in it, but it did look interesting to me. It was far and away better than anything else that I had shot.

Technical Data

I probably did more to this picture in Lightroom than any other to date. I performed a few tricks to get the colors to come out, but the noise was really bad. I shot at a low ISO, but looking up close I did not like the results. I thought that I would try the noise reduction feature of Lightroom out. It lived up to its billing, and my picture looked a bit better to me. The result may not be apparent on this little screen, but if it was ever blown up I would be happy with the result.

Other News

I think part of the block lately in finding subjects that are interesting to me is the fact that I have been going through pictures from the last two vacations. When you see places much nicer than yours you tend to long to be there. I have made a dent in my files that have gone untouched, but I still have a long way to go. Someday I will get caught up. I have found a few gems from Ocean City that will eventually make it on this site once this project is over.
