Flashback Photo
This shot is from 2002. I had Ben to the inaugural race at the Chicagoland Speedway the year before, but could not make the second race. I decided to head to Joliet a couple of days early though to see the cars qualify. I also had an another motive. I really wanted to see the World of Outlaws cars compete. These guys do some amazing things on the track. I really enjoyed my experience that day. They put on a heck of a show. On the way out after everything was over I realized that in my haste to go between the tracks that day I had left my lights in. The battery in my old Ranger was done. I watched everyone else leave with not a soul offering to help. Finally someone in security came over to ask me to leave. I informed them that leaving was my intention all along but I could not. They helped me out, and I was on my way.
Technical Data
Really the only piece of technical data here is that this was shot with my old Mavica camera. On a day when I knew that I would be taking lots of pictures I had to have pockets full of floppy disks. Those only held about 20 pictures a piece so I had to kind of be picky with what I shot. It makes me laugh now to think of the thousand plus pictures that I can capture on one of my SD cards. The other piece of technical data is what the camera could not do. I could not get any good action shots once it became dark. I could try and pan with the cars, but that was it. It wasn’t until four years later that I finally had a camera that would allow me to shoot at night.
