Day 302 Bonus: Go With the Grain

Bonus Photo of the Day

Yesterday I thought that this was my shot for a long time before sunset came. I figured that I could just post it as a bonus picture to get it out there. I take a few shots some days that never see the light of day. When this project is over hopefully they will keep this site going for a long time. I actually went out after work looking to get a windmill picture yesterday, but just like the last several times I couldn’t find a new angle on the subjects that I used to photograph frequently. I pulled up to them when I saw this shot. I thought it could be interesting, and I kind of liked it.

Technical Data

This one was fun to process. I processed it in Lightroom again, but then I saw that it had too much range to look good. I was going to settle on an HDR attempt when I decided to try something. In Lightroom they have a graduated filter that acts just like one does for your camera. It allowed me to darken the sky while keeping the corn nice and crisp. I was very pleased with the results, and I will have to keep this little trick in mind. Right now I don’t see any need for Photoshop except for layer work occasionally.

  1. Very nice, I like the graduated filter in Lightroom for reducing the exposure and brightening the blues. It’s nice to see green corn, ours has burned up due to the drought.
