Day 279: Pickup Man

Photo of the Day

Today’s photo is actually one that I spotted a couple of weeks ago. While driving past this parking lot I spotted this old Ford truck. I knew that it would make an interesting picture, and a chance to try my hand at automobile photography. I tried a couple of angles, but came back to the initial view that I thought of with this truck. I moved a step or two over to the left to get this shot. I know that it is not proportional, but I think that makes the picture.

Technical Data

Today I tried the same technique as yesterday. I brought my three files into Photomatix to process them. After they were merged instead of tonemapping them I saved the file. After the file was saved I gave tonemapping a try, but it just never looked right. All of the images had that overdone look that I started off doing. I then switched to exposure fusion to give it a try. I liked the result, and saved that thinking that it would be the photo of the day. Just for kicks I opened the image that I saved initially with nothing done to it in Lightroom. Once again I was greeted with a white picture. When I moved my exposure all the way over it looked close, but it would take some work to get something that I would like. I played around with the sliders a bit more tonight to get this image. It is a bit overdone, but I like the end result.

Shameless Plug

I forgot to mention yesterday that I had a great experience. On Friday night I noticed that the zipper for my laptop on my camera bag was not working right. I made it last through the weekend, but went to Berry’s Camera Shop in Lafayette where I bought it to see what they could do. They offered an exchange, but of course that bag was not in stock. She suggested a different bag that would be better anyway. I also needed a smaller bag for short jaunts that would not require all of my equipment. I picked one of those up as well. When she read my total to me I knew that something had to be wrong. She said that it was not, and that I was all set. I was still a little hesitant to leave, but she reassured me that everything was taken care of. They not only made things right, but they went out of their way to make me happy. Since day one I have had great experiences inside this shop, and I will continue to come back as long as they will let me. Once again it is Berry’s Camera Shop in Lafayette.
