Today I was sitting around trying to think of a place to go and get some pictures. I had a couple of towns in mind knowing that I had to be back in West Lafayette at night. It was then that I realized that Wolf Park was open today for the one time in the winter. If I wanted a picture of the wolves on the frozen lake I had to move quickly. On the way to the park I was pleased to see that we received even more snow overnight. The grounds that would have been ugly earlier in the week would be beautiful today. I took in a lecture and then took the tour around the grounds. I experimented a bit more with shooting through the fence, but with the heavy sunlight I could always see at least a remnant of the light. When it was all said and down I went up high on the main bleachers to have an unobstructed view of the wolves. For some reason when I was up there the wolves started howling. For most of the time these two were right next to each other, and it did not look too great. Luckily they separated just enough to get this shot. This is straight out of the camera with no processing done to it. I did manage to learn a few things today as well as have a lot of fun. I just may have to sign up for the photo day in the enclosure next month. I would love to be able to get close to the wolves without a fence in the way. Photography has pushed me to do things that I normally would not do. Without a camera I would want something in between me and the predators. To get a shot though I would step inside.
I liked a lot of my pictures from today, but it is too late to start really going through them. I hope to have them up on my Facebook or Flickr accounts at some point tomorrow.
I think this is my favorite photo of yours to date. I suck at all the technical stuff in framing my photos and things like that, but I personally believe, photography is about capturing a moment and a feeling and sharing it.
This photo does that extremely well! I really wish I could have been there to see this, I would have loved it. If only that wolf-butt weren’t on the left edge, I think I’d be in love with this shot.
Thanks! If I had not been so tired I would have cropped in just a little to get rid of the wolf. I ended up doing that today, but last night I was very tired. I really love that park because it seems to be full of moments. I just have to get the guts up to go inside and get pictures from inside the enclosure.
