Day 65: A Try At the Lunar Eclipse

This morning I went out to try and get some of the lunar eclipse for this site. I knew going into it that living where I do that I wouldn’t see the whole eclipse, but I did want to capture part of it. I found a few things out today. One of them is that the moon moves really fast. The other is that I a not used to my tripod. I shoot hand held 99.9% of the time. When I had to use the tripod under pressure I struggled a bit to get the shot I needed. I actually was planning on using the window of my car to steady the camera, but then I decided to use my new remote shutter control so I broke the tripod out. This shot was one of the first taken off the tripod. With my gear I could not get a close up view of the moon, but I tried to make the best of what I could get. I actually zoomed out a bit to get the snowy field and the trees in the shot. In 2014 when the next total eclipse happens I hope to be a little better to get a good shot. Speaking of total eclipse we have to stop using that term because the Bonnie Tyler song comes into my head every time I hear it. It makes it hard to get a good steady shot singing “turn around bright eyes.”

I froze this morning to get the shots that I did, but it was cool to watch the moon starting to turn red. I really wish that I lived further west to see the whole thing. I have enjoyed Google+ in the short time that I have been using it, but today I have really enjoyed it. A lot of good photographers got a great shot of the moon today. If I can’t take the good shot it is nice to look at them.
